Who doesn’t like to discover unusual places with interesting but little-known details? The main attractions are indispensable, of course. But for those who are strolling, getting to know a hidden place is always a pleasure. For those who like to discover picturesque places, Bumpz will help travelers rediscover the pleasure of discovering.
It works like this: the user walks through the city and, when approaching an interesting site, an alert pop-ups in the smartphone warning about curiosities of the place.
For example, as you walk down Pearl St. in New York, you will receive an alert when approaching the Fraunces Tavern: "Here is where George Washington and his mates sat to commemorate the expulsion of the British in 1783”.
For movies and TV fans, there are also several venues that indicate locations of famous movie scenes. One of them is the restaurant where was filmed the classic scene of Meg Ryan faking an orgasm in the movie When Harry Met Sally...– the restaurant manager says it is very common to have people there trying to redo the scene.
The app uses GPS coordinates on your smartphone – there is no need to be online to get the alerts.
Another interesting aspect is that you simply can’t search the places in advance; the hints only pop-up if the user approaches the place (the monitoring radius for triggering alerts can be modified). So, time to run around to find outsome secrets – it’s a treasure hunt for discovering the city.
Bumpz works initially for New York city locations and in three languages: English, Portuguese and Spanish.
